HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR CLOTHES

AKYN pieces are made to last– timeless in form, considered in detail. We believe in a wardrobe that evolves slowly, with garments you’ll return to again and again.

Worn often, kept longer, they leave a lighter footprint.

To help yours endure, we've shared a few simple care tips below.

WASHING

Washing garments too frequently can use unnecessary water and energy. Often, a simple refresh is all that’s needed: spot clean where possible, gently hand wash, or air garments out between wears.

When a full wash is required, opt for lower temperatures and a mild, natural detergent. This helps preserve the integrity of your pieces while reducing the environmental impact of each cycle.

DRYING

Where possible, choose air drying over tumble drying. It’s gentler on your garments, significantly reduces energy use, and leaves clothes with the fresh scent of open air.

Hang pieces on a line or drying rack, or lay them flat as needed– always referring to the care label for guidance.

DRY CLEANING

Conventional dry cleaning is a chemically intensive process often relying on Perchloroethylene (Perc), a solvent reported to be harmful to both the environment and human health.

Many garments labelled ‘dry clean only,’ such as coats or tailored pieces, can often be refreshed with gentle spot cleaning or simply aired out between wears.

When professional cleaning is necessary, we recommend choosing a service that uses non-toxic, environmentally responsible methods.

STORING

Thoughtful storage helps extend the life of your garments. Keep clothing in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Avoid overcrowding your wardrobe– giving each piece space to breathe helps preserve its shape and fabric. Use wooden or padded hangers for structure, and protect knitwear from moths with natural repellents such as lavender sachets or cedarwood.

REPAIRING

Repairing your clothes is an easy and effective way of extending your garment’s life. A missing button or small tear rarely requires expert hands; simple mending can restore a piece for years to come. Even more, the process itself can be grounding–studies suggest that hand-stitching may help release serotonin, making it as restorative for the mind as it is for your wardrobe.

At AKYN, we’re here to support the longevity of your pieces. If your garment needs repair, our Atelier team will do their best to assist. Please reach out to our customer care team for more information.

DONATING

We hope your AKYN pieces will remain cherished in your wardrobe for as long as possible, but when you have fallen out of love with any of your clothes, please donate them to someone who is in need or resell them.

RECYCLING

At AKYN, we design with end-of-life in mind. Wherever possible, we choose natural fibres that biodegrade more readily and with less environmental harm than synthetics.

Although fabric recycling technologies are evolving, scalable solutions for recycling synthetics are still in development. In the meantime, we encourage thoughtful disposal of unwanted garments.
