The first drop of our second collection has arrived. Discover the inspiration and elevated details behind creative director Amy Powney’s designs, the hero styles of Collection 002 and how our latest collection continues the ethos of Collection 001 to build your AKYN wardrobe.
“AKYN is all about building wardrobes,” shares Amy Powney, founder & creative director of AKYN, introducing Collection 002. “If Collection 001 is the foundation of the AKYN wardrobe, Collection 002 is the sequel.” The collection is continuation of our Autumn Winter collection, with the River Phoenix quote ‘Run to the Rescue with Love and Peace will Follow’ haloing both 001 and 002.
“With 002, we are introducing colour for the first time to the AKYN wardrobe, while also adding new hero pieces and styles for layering as the season shifts from Autumn to Winter,” shares Amy. Unsurprisingly, this includes new knitwear styles and warm winter layers, as well as new denim, day to night dresses, refined shirting and effortless tailoring.
“When I design, I think about the different layers of women and our needs, so you'll find dresses that can take you from day to relaxed night, knitwear that can take you from work to weekend, and tailoring that can be worn season to season.”
SHADES OF THE SEASON
Where Collection 001 offered a neutral base – a palate cleanse – upon which your AKYN wardrobe can be built on, Collection 002 builds in shades of deep red, peach and burgundy. Highlights include our Robyn Red Shirt, as well as our Chaya knits in Burgundy and Peach, which pair perfectly with our Perla Deep Red Trousers.
The collection also introduces warm grey, in the form of our Chaya Grey Marl Jumper, as well as our coordinating Reese Top, Perla Trousers, and Robyn Shirt in soft grey wool.
ELEVATED DETAILS
The collection carries forward our ethos of elevating core wardrobe staples through considered detail, epitomised this season by the distinctive cast hag stone button, which will be seen in Drop Two.
There’s also an update to the iconic pearl shoulder, as seen on our Aylin and Kori sweatshirts. "For 002 I've reimagined the pearl shoulder with a cluster embellishment that's perfect for the party season ahead, as well as baroque faux pearls,” highlights Amy.
Our signature brass hardware returns in a the form of a detachable gold pin that adds a point of elevation to our Kora Charcoal Cardigan.
STYLE EVOLUTION
For Collection 002, we have evolved some of our bestselling styles from 001. Our Lola Maxi Dress, for example, is a sleek evolution of our best-selling Isla Top, sharing the same asymmetric neckline and artful draping but in a longer, dress style.
Our Saoirse top, Peace Jumper, and Perla Trousers are all expanded with new colour ways for winter.
THOUGHTFUL CRAFTSMANSHIP
As always, our collection has been thoughtfully crafted from natural, botanic and regenerative fibres that honour both people and planet, including Portuguese merino wool, TENCEL™ Lyocell and Organic Cotton. For Collection 002, some limited run styles, including our Robyn shirt, were crafted here in the UK at our London Atelier.
