“Turning 40, having grown and nurtured an independent brand alongside raising my two young children, my outlook on life has evolved. I am really excited to take everything I have learnt so far– my failures and triumphs– and pour this into creating a new brand so that together we can make bigger and deeper, more meaningful change in the way we engage with fashion. Amy's Creative Journey So Far...
In December 2024, longstanding creative director, Amy Powney, stepped away from Mother of Pearl after 20 years to launch her own brand– AKYN.
In 2018, Amy created Mother of Pearl’s first fully sustainable collection, No Frills, and went on to apply her learnings to each subsequent collection and transform the brand. In doing so, she showed that there is another way to create fashion– that it is possible to create beautiful, desirable clothes with a transparent supply chain; organic, best practice natural materials; and a socially-responsible ethos.
